About Alaska Deaf Council

The Alaska Deaf Council (ADC) is Alaska’s premier civil rights organization of, by and for Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, Hard of Hearing, and Late-Deafened individuals in Alaska. Established in 1959, The ADC was shaped by deaf leaders who believed in the right of the Alaskan deaf community to use Sign Language, to congregate on issues important to them, and to have its interests represented at the state and national level. The advocacy scope of the ADC focuses on early intervention, education, employment, health care, technology, telecommunications, youth leadership, civil and linguistic rights, and more with the intent to improve the lives of people in the state of Alaska.

The ADC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supported by the generosity of individual and organizational donors including corporations and foundations. The Council is a member organization consisted of volunteers from local communities in the state of Alaska. Individual members have voting privileges at the annual statewide meeting. The ADC is open to all groups within the Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, Hard of Hearing, and Late-Deafened communities without discrimination, and individuals may serve in any appointed positions or on any committees.
